Books, in those days, were handwritten, not mass-produced, and though Theophilus probably had a few copies made for friends, all of them would .   Since Cadbury’s The Making of Luke-Acts in , it has become customary to refer to Luke and Acts with a hyphen, or perhaps a slash, as if to say there is a single book with two parts. An analogy might be Josephus’s multi-volume Antiquities of the Jews or The Jewish War.

MISSION AND UNIVERSALISM IN LUKE-ACTS 57 the study of the Gentile mission in Acts, is occupied largely with the question of historical reliability of Luke-Acts than on Luke's concept(s) of mission. A brief and yet a comprehensive study on Luke's theology of mission, in our opinion, can be found in the work, D.J. Bosch's Transforming Misison. Understanding when the book of Acts was written allows us to determine when many other New Testament books were composed. Unfortunately, Biblical writings do not always contain clear chronological markers, and there is a range of opinion on when Acts was written. Despite this, we can be fairly confident that it was composed in the early to mids.

The books of Luke and Acts are a 2 volume set and Luke wants to make sure we (at least all friends of God) remember that. I enjoy studying Luke-Acts with seekers and new Christians because it gives the whole story from start to finish without having to jump to another author. The short story, in sum: the author of Luke also wrote the book of Acts; the book of Acts in four places talks about what “we” (companions with Paul) were doing; both books were therefore written by one of Paul’s companions; Acts and Luke appear to have a gentile bias; only three of Paul’s companions were known to be gentiles.

Cadbury | Paul N Anderson - Arguably the most important book by Henry J. Cadbury, this foreword to his The Making of Luke-Acts is the first of his New Testament books that I have gotten. The authorship of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, collectively known as Luke–Acts, is an important issue for biblical exegetes who are attempting to produce critical scholarship on the origins of the New Testament.

Traditionally, the text is believed to have been written by Luke the companion of Paul. However, the earliest manuscripts are anonymous, and the traditional view has been challenged.

The messengers of salvation are Jesus, his associates, and all those who proclaim his person, work, and their significance. The book of Acts starts out with: "The former treatise have I made", probably referring to the Gospel of Luke.
