In contrast to the book of E. Beerstecher Jr., J. B. Davis devotes less space to the physiology and morphology of the bacteria encountered in petroleum or developing in organic derivatives. The list of references is a nearly complete enumeration of the newer literature on petroleum concerned with geochemistry and microbiology, including Soviet. Organic geochemistry is the study of this ma-terial and the interpretation of its struc-ture in terms of the processes that shaped it. The size of the present book, the number of contributors, and the qual-ity of the papers mirror the present state and the healthy growth of the field. Organic geochemistry has grown under three different stimuli Author: David Eisenberg.
